About
About this site
The Weekend Folio is a small site about crochet and the quieter end of keeping a house. It is written by one maker working from a spare-room desk, not a design studio with a team of testers.
Why every pattern starts with a specification
Most free patterns online tell you what to do but not what you need. You find out the gauge was different four inches in, or that "one skein" meant a skein twice the size of yours. So every pattern here opens with the full specification: hook in millimetres, yarn weight, the yardage actually used, the gauge over a stated swatch, and the finished measurements.
The yardage figures are measured rather than estimated. The finished piece is weighed, and that weight is converted against the ball band. If a pattern comes in several sizes, each size is weighed and listed separately — averaging them across sizes is how people end up one ball short.
What "tested" means here
Every pattern published has been worked up at least once, start to finish, in the yarn listed. Stitch counts at the end of each round are the counts from that piece. Where a step is fiddly, the pattern says so rather than pretending it is not.
This is one maker's tension, though, not a tested-by-committee pattern. That is exactly why gauge is given: if your swatch does not match, change hook size before you commit several hours to a garment that will not fit.
Terms and conventions
Patterns use US crochet terms throughout, and each pattern says so. If you are used to UK terms, remember that a US single crochet is a UK double crochet — the names are offset by one all the way up.
What this site does not do
There are no star ratings, no review counts and no testimonials anywhere on this site, because none have been collected. When there are real ones, they will appear — and not before.
A note on the rebuild
This site was rebuilt from scratch in July 2026. The previous version had accumulated hundreds of near-duplicate pages that helped nobody, and those have been consolidated rather than left in place. Old links still work; they point to the closest surviving pattern or section.
